Ok, so it's so hard to believe that I've already been away from home for two weeks. Peru was so amazing, and I think it may have been one of the most rewarding mission trips that I have been on yet. I made some lifelong friends with people from Carey as well as new friends from Peru I'll never forget. Its hard to explain that I'm homesick, but I don't want to come home yet.
I'll try to give you all an overview of the trip, I am not a writer or a storyteller so bare with me.
We left on Monday at 12:30 in the afternoon, two weeks ago from today. Upon arriving in Lima, Peru early the next morning, we drove straight to Jimbe, Peru which was our home base during our stay. Jimbe is a very quaint, small town. I loved the beauty of the village and the people, also. Everyday we would travel on our buses with our translators further up into the mountains. Our travels each day would take at least one hour. The first day on those one-way, precarious roads I thought surely we would fall of the mountains. But once we were at our destinations for the day, it was all worth it. On top of those mountains are the least of these. The precious people here who don't have much so I think God decided to give them one of the most beautiful places in the world to live. They may sleep on the floor and not have sanitation. They may never know what technology is, or what it's like to have an education, but when they walk outside God proclaims his glory to them everyday.

Once we were up in the mountains, we were able to help out with a few basic needs. One of our main ministries was reading glasses. This project brought so much joy to my heart, because we were helping people see words more clearly which means they can now read the bible easier. Also, when they came to have their eyes checked we would give them a Spanish Bible if their family did not own one. There were so many people that wanted to read the word, but were not able to simply because they were not able to attain their own copy.
The children in the mountains were so sweet. All they wanted was love from the gringos:) So I got to sit down with them and I tried to teach them some basic English words.

We got to travel to one of the most beautiful places on earth I'm convinced. Tim Glaze calls it "paradise." This place was so far into the mountains that it took two hours to come back to Jimbe. A smaller group from ours went a little further up to share the gospel with an interested family that were close by.
